How It All Began

A little history is in order here, Gemstar Custom Rifles, was formed back in 1987… Specializing in long range Hunting, Target, and Tactical rifles…The company was based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado and was moderately successful, but after the owner Glen Mercurio retired from running night clubs, and moved to the far North of Idaho, the rifle business was just not in as much of a demand….
Gun repairs became the norm, and custom rifles became a distant second….
In 2006 Glen went back to an old hobby and pastime, of using a vintage straight razor, instead of the typical Mach 3 and Fusion styles… Shaving irritation from multiple blades, and the canned shaving goop, were the main reasons, just like it was when he first started using a straight back in 1981….
After finding several on-line forums based on wet shaving in general, and Straight Razor Place in particular he started buying and re-furbishing his own straight razors, and soon others were asking for work to be done to their razors….The skill set from rifle-smithing and razor restoring were very similar, so this became a way of doing the custom work that was lacking in the gun business…

Skip forward 3 years, and in 2009 you have the opening of “Gemstar Custom Razors the Website”, where you can have your own totally restored custom straight razor come home to you completely shave ready, so you can experience a truly comfortable, clean, old fashioned shave every morning….
